🏠 “Where Are We at Home?” is an entertaining association game that helps children link everyday actions and objects with the right room of the house. The child rolls a large dice and works out which cards belong in the kitchen, the bedroom or the bathroom. As they play, vocabulary grows naturally and they learn to make sense of the world around them.
✨ What does this game develop?
- Attention and concentration – the child looks closely at each card and decides which room it belongs to;
- Logical thinking – objects and actions are grouped by their purpose, teaching classification;
- Vocabulary and fluency – naming rooms, objects and actions builds a store of words and practises connected speech.
🎲 How to play at home?
Lay the five main room cards on the table and shuffle the thirty smaller ones. The child rolls the big dice, takes a card and says out loud which room it belongs to and why. You can also play it more simply – just sorting the cards under the right room and talking about what we do in each one. A game like this is a wonderful invitation to talk about the home and everyday chores.
🧑🏫 Tips for professionals
Speech and language therapists and teachers use the resource for widening vocabulary and developing connected speech – the child is encouraged not only to name an object but to build a sentence about what it is for. The cards work well for verb work (“I wash”, “I cook”, “I sleep”) and for grouping nouns by theme. In group activities children learn to wait their turn and to justify their choice. The resource adapts easily to individual and to group work alike.
