🎯 An apple, cheese, bread, a carrot – the world of food is full of words a child hears every day. Photographs “Food” are 54 large, lifelike pictures of a wide range of foods: a professional language resource that ties vocabulary work to the most everyday situations of all – eating, cooking, shopping.
✨ What does this resource develop?
- Vocabulary – the names of foods and how to describe them (taste, colour, shape);
- Categorisation – fruit, vegetables, dairy, drinks;
- Everyday language use – we talk about what we really eat;
- Memory and attention – they work for memory and sorting games too.
🎲 How to play at home?
Name the foods, sort them into groups (“put all the fruit together”), play shops or “think up a lunch” – the child builds their own menu from the photographs and tells you what they are going to “cook”. At the dinner table, recall the cards: which of the things on our plate did we see in the photographs today? They can also be combined with the “Healthy Eating Traffic Light” – sorting foods by how good they are for us.
🧑🏫 Tips for professionals
For speech and language therapists, food is one of the most rewarding themes there is: vocabulary, matching nouns and adjectives (“the sour taste of a lemon”), sentence building (“I am eating…”, “I like…”), categorising and generalising. The large real photographs with a holder suit individual and group work alike; they are especially useful with children who have feeding difficulties – it is always safer to talk about a “difficult” food through a picture first.
📦 What is in the set
- 54 large photographs of foods (16.6 × 11.6 cm);
- 1 photograph holder.
👶 Who is it for?
Recommended from 3 years. For speech and language therapists, nurseries and families – a resource that moves language work to the dinner table and into the shopping basket.
